The Truck has left the building

The walls and columns are on their way from North York. They should be here soon, and the lifting will start! Be sure to have a look at the live camera, which will now update every 20 seconds.

The jib is up

Today the crane company came and installed the jib on the crane, so we are all ready to start lifting the HSS columns and pre-made walls tomorrow. Above are some tests to make sure we can reach the back of the house.

The crane has arrived

The crane arrived in the middle of the night last night – but unfortunately, they delivered the wrong one. The panels are now all finished, and are supposed to go up on Tuesday (if we can find another crane by then).

Cladding the walls

I stopped by the shop this morning to have a look at the progress of the panels. They had started with the first of many layers; first DensGlass sheathing, 2 layers of 1″ foam insulation, Tyvek house wrap, drainage board, and then the concrete panels (see picture above).
We decided to leave the concrete panels raw and not paint or finish them, so there will be nothing to maintain or refinish in the future.

Bits and Pieces

Today the wall construction began!  Above are some (camera phone) shots of them in the workshop. Tomorrow, I will be visiting while they are skinning the panels and I’ll take some more shots.

I also picked up a new roof hatch so we can easy access to the rooftop – I like the raw simplicity of it, so I think we’ll leave it exposed.

7 inches square

This is what we’ve been waiting for! I just got these shots of the structural columns from our contractor Fernando. Each of the 7″ square posts will sit on pads that have been poured in the corners of the house. The 2 posts with the “nubs” sticking off of them are to support an extension around the windows in the front.

The prefabricated walls are being made over the next few days, so stay tuned for some progress shots.

Ready to go up

With the new floor sheeting in place, the house is now fully prepped to accept the 3rd story. There was a slight setback with sourcing of the structural steel columns, so the crane won’t arrive until next week , along with the finished panels.

Sweet Sunday afternoon

To keep things moving – Sunday became the New Monday, and we started working. We got the joists reinforced, LVL beams in place, and most of the load bearing perimeter walls up to snuff.
On Monday the new sub floor will be laid. Tuesday, the crane is coming!! I’ll post some picks tomorrow morning when I get the camera off the roof.
