The walls and columns are on their way from North York. They should be here soon, and the lifting will start! Be sure to have a look at the live camera, which will now update every 20 seconds.
Category: details in check
I stopped by the shop this morning to have a look at the progress of the panels. They had started with the first of many layers; first DensGlass sheathing, 2 layers of 1″ foam insulation, Tyvek house wrap, drainage board, and then the concrete panels (see picture above).
We decided to leave the concrete panels raw and not paint or finish them, so there will be nothing to maintain or refinish in the future.

Today the wall construction began! Above are some (camera phone) shots of them in the workshop. Tomorrow, I will be visiting while they are skinning the panels and I’ll take some more shots.
I also picked up a new roof hatch so we can easy access to the rooftop – I like the raw simplicity of it, so I think we’ll leave it exposed.

This is what we’ve been waiting for! I just got these shots of the structural columns from our contractor Fernando. Each of the 7″ square posts will sit on pads that have been poured in the corners of the house. The 2 posts with the “nubs” sticking off of them are to support an extension around the windows in the front.
The prefabricated walls are being made over the next few days, so stay tuned for some progress shots.

To keep things moving – Sunday became the New Monday, and we started working. We got the joists reinforced, LVL beams in place, and most of the load bearing perimeter walls up to snuff.
On Monday the new sub floor will be laid. Tuesday, the crane is coming!! I’ll post some picks tomorrow morning when I get the camera off the roof.
